Incubation and Commercialization Summit

Innovation and Technology Commission third Summit “Incubation and Commercialization Summit” (https://hkbgsp.hkust.edu.hk/) was going to be held on 6 December 2022 (Tuesday) at HKUST Campus. The first summit “Blue Marine Economy Summit” was held on 23 June 2022 at HKUST, which focused on ocean governance and safety. It attracted over 230 participants and honorable guests (including ~170 onsite and ~60 online). The second summit “Applied Fundamental Research” was held on 17 September 2022 at HKUST, which attracted over 200 participants and honorable guests. Both successful events had initiated active exchanges among different sectors.

Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH)

HKTDC cordially invited our members to attend the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) on 10-11 November 2022 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The evolving challenges brought by the pandemic have underlined the urgency for concerted efforts in bolstering global health and the need for innovation to shape a more sustainable future. In Asia, the tremendous demand for healthcare coupled with its emerging role as a vibrant innovation hub points to the region’s growing significance in the global health landscape.

The inaugural Summit was successfully concluded last November. It featured over 70 internationally renowned speakers and attracted more than 21,000 onsite and online participants from 54 countries and regions. Over 200 one-to-one meetings matching investors with global healthcare projects were arranged.

Riding on its success, the second Asia Summit on Global Health organised in hybrid format and extended to a two-day event on 10-11 November 2022 in Hong Kong, bought together all stakeholders - from policymakers to healthcare experts to renowned academia and influential business leaders, together with key industry players, innovative start-ups, and investors from around the world to exchange insights, explore opportunities and collaborate on the diverse and dynamic healthcare sector.

Themed “Charting a New Course in Healthcare through Collaboration”, the Summit will comprise a high-level symposium covering a wide range of topics from global health issues, policy dialogue on the future of public health, healthcare innovation to business opportunities in Asia. A series of thematic tracks focusing on the latest trends in different medical sectors, project pitching as well as deal flow matchmaking sessions will be organised to facilitate business discussions and investment partnerships. InnoHealth Showcase, a dedicated exhibition area showcasing global healthcare projects and technologies will be launched alongside the Summit.

Coinciding with this year’s Summit, the inaugural “International Healthcare Week” also organised to bring together a wide array of healthcare related events in Hong Kong, creating synergy in global partnership in healthcare leveraging Hong Kong’s role as an innovation and investment hub for the sector in Asia. As anchor events under the Week, the Asia Summit on Global Health and HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair staged concurrently to highlight Hong Kong's strengths in the healthcare sector.

The 5th China International Import Expo 2022

HKTDC cordially invited our members to attend the fifth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) on 5-10 November 2022 at the Shanghai National Exhibition & Convention Centre. CIIE is organised by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. The HKTDC continued to mount a Product Pavilion and a Services Pavilion, introducing Hong Kong’s international trade resources, products and professional services to the mainland market and beyond.

In 2021, the CIIE was the largest online-offline Expo organised in China amid the pandemic. It attracted more than 2,900 exhibitors from 127 countries and regions, with a total exhibition space of over 360,000 sqm. Cumulative intentional deals with a total value of over USD70 billion were reached.

According to the “Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035” published in March 2021, the Central Government proposed the new dual circulation strategy to continue the economic sustainable growth, presenting new business opportunities for international collaboration. The Expo was therefore an ideal platform for Hong Kong companies and our international business communities to get connected with potential business partners worldwide and to acquire the latest market insights.

Hong Kong-Asean Summit 2022

The South China Morning Post was excited to launch an inaugural event - Hong Kong-Asean Summit 2022 which took place on 3 November (Thursday), from 9.20 a.m. to 1.10 p.m. at Conrad Hong Kong - bringing together business leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, China and the regional community to discuss and debate what the immediate future hold for Hong Kong while considering the city’s long-term position within Greater Bay Area, China and ASEAN. Experts deliberated on Hong Kong’s future as a super-connector with China and ASEAN, with discussions around what a global financial centre will look like, benefits and challenges of Hong Kong’s accession to RCEP and tapping into Hong Kong’s green talent pool for China-ASEAN.

Online Summit - Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit

The 6th Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) Online Summit held on 13-14 October. Over 30 overseas speakers were presenting and sharing their views on the application and development of gerontech, agendas including Policy Frameworks for Enabling Gerontech, Tech for Dementia & End-of-life Care, Use of Art Tech to Enhance Social Care, Overseas Experience in Gerontech Adoption amid the Pandemic etc.

In early September, the HKTDC will organise three lifestyle events covering timepieces and fashion items in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair (7-11 Sept) was an all-encompassing timepiece showcase, featuring complete watches, smartwatches and clocks, as well as parts, components and equipment.  Salon de TE (7-11 Sept), the prestigious gallery of timepieces, spotlights premium watch brands and unique watch designs. At the two fairs, you could find some of the best deals in town for renowned brands including world-famous collections fromPrince Jewellery & Watch, Armour, Doxa, FILA, Leonard Montres, Memorigin and Romago, etc. and join the product launch events of watch brands as well as watch auctions.

Business of IP Asia Forum 2022

Jointly organised by the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Design Centre, BIP Asia Forum bought IP professionals and industry leaders from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in the IP world, and explored business collaboration opportunities. Last year, the two-day Forum featured over 70 prominent speakers to share their insights with more than 14,500 viewers from over 45 countries and regions.

The 12th edition of BIP Asia Forum hold on 1-2 December 2022 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in a brand new hybrid format (Day 1 in-person & online; Day 2 online). As one of the celebration events for the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, the upcoming Forum included a wide range of new initiatives including the debut of “IP Market”. Themed “Smart Manufacturing and Building”, IP Market was a one-stop platform which will showcase the latest technology projects by universities, R&D centres and start-ups from Hong Kong and provide networking and partnership building opportunities.

Online Webinar with Chief Executive of the HKSAR

The Hon John KC Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered his Policy Address to the Legislative Council in October.

We were deeply honoured that Mr Lee had accepted our invitation to speak to the Hong Kong business community on 9 November.

Attendees would been able to hear Mr Lee explain the priorities of his first Policy Address, and learn more about his initiatives to tackle key issues such as the labour market, land and housing supply and the environment, as well as his plans for improving governance, strengthening the momentum for development, tackling people’s concerns, and uniting the community in the year ahead.
